What was the first season for the Toronto Raptors

The Toronto Raptors' debut season was a disaster, with only 21 wins. 1995-1996 was the inaugural season for the Toronto Raptors in National Basketball Association (NBA). NBA left Vancouver because of a dispute with the City Council regarding arena financing. The City had planned to contribute $40 million toward the construction of a new basketball arena. It would have 12 luxury suites, two restaurants and a bar. However, the City Council wanted $60 million in taxpayer money for the team owners to pay off their existing debt. The city would need to borrow $200 million to construct the arena. However, the owners of the team only had to repay $20 million in debt. The city would have to pay the remainder of the loan back.

The City Council indicated that they would approve the plan if Rogers Arena was allowed to remain until the new facility is opened. However, the league refused to compromise and said that the arena was too small for them. They didn't want to play there anymore because it was too small. They felt that asking them to play in a smaller venue was unfair, especially since they weren't making any additional revenue.

The City Council then asked the province to step in and help out by offering financial assistance. Although the province was willing to donate $150 million, the City Council still needed additional $100 million.
